- By 2000, although Japan retained the highest employment rate for men in this age group compared to the other nations, it had decreased to 74%. Concurrently, the other countries demonstrated similar patterns, with Belgium experiencing the most significant decline, reaching 19%.

- In the case of women within the same age range, Japan maintained the highest employment rates, starting at 43% in 1970 and decreasing to 40% by 2000.
- This stood in sharp contrast to Belgium, which, despite a negligible drop from 8% to 7%, consistently reported the lowest figures.
- Conversely, the US and Australia witnessed upward trends in the employment rates of 60-64 year-old women, with the former increasing from 36% to 39% and the latter from 16% to 18% by 2000.
