        • When the economy is in decline and fewer jobs are available, crime rates naturally rise as a result. 
      • Example:  This has been exacerbated in the last 2 years as Covid-19 has decimated national economies and put millions out of work.

    • Main idea 1: Parents have to take more responsibility for their children’s actions. 
      • Supporting idea: 
        • They too should be punished if their children commit crime
        • Throughout education, the youth can realise their wrongful actions and be given opportunities to turn over a new leaf and transform themselves into useful members of society later in life.
      • Example: In Singapore, parents of juvenile offenders can be fined or even jailed for their children's crimes. This is because the government believes that parents have a responsibility to ensure that their children do not commit crimes.
    • Main idea 2: Crime rates among younger individuals will recede with economic stimulus plans directed at job creation and education.
      • Supporting idea:

        • The result of individuals having jobs is the motive for crime disappears in the vast majority of cases and police can focus on less common causes such as mental illness, greed, and jealousy.
      • Example: 

        In the aftermath of the 2008 Great Recession in the United States, a surge in youth unemployment correlated with an increase in crime rates; however, the introduction of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, focusing on job creation and education, was linked to a significant decline in youth homicide rates by approximately 10%, as reported in a 2016 study in the journal Criminology.
