The provided bar charts illustrate the percentage of food and other products purchased from supermarkets in three European countries between 1998 and 2008.
Overall, supermarket sales in all three nations showed a significant upward trajectory, regardless of product type. In terms of food purchases, in 1998, residents of Country 2 bought around 23% of their food from supermarkets, which rose slightly by 5% over the next decade. A similar but more substantial trend was seen in Country 1, where the percentage of food bought in supermarkets jumped from 10% to 35%, overtaking Country 2. Food sales in Country 3 remained relatively low, with figures under 10% in both years, despite a marginal increase.
A parallel trend appeared in the sale of goods. Country 2 led in 1998 with nearly 25% of goods bought from supermarkets, five times the figure for Country 1. However, by 2008, Country 1 experienced an eightfold increase, reaching almost 40%, surpassing the more modest rise in Country 2 to around 27%. Country 3 continued to have the lowest percentage of goods bought in supermarkets, increasing from just over 2% to almost 15%.
