On the other hand, proponents of space mining, myself included, highlight its potential to provide access to rare minerals that are becoming scarce on Earth. As a matter of fact, these minerals are essential for the production of advanced technologies, including electronics, renewable energy systems, and medical devices. For example, indium, a rare earth element crucial for the production of touchscreens, is becoming scarce on Earth, but space missions have identified asteroids with significant quantities of indium. Furthermore, space mining could stimulate economic growth by creating new industries and job opportunities. The development of space technology and infrastructure for mining could also lead to advancements in other fields, such as telecommunications and robotics.

In conclusion, while the high costs and potential environmental impacts of space mining cannot be ignored, I do believe that the potential benefits in terms of access to rare minerals and economic growth make it a worthwhile endeavor.
