People living in poverty may struggle to meet their basic needs such as food, housing, and healthcare, and may not have access to education and job opportunities. As a result, they may resort to criminal activities such as theft or drug dealing to make ends meet. 
    • Main idea 2: These individuals may be exposed to violence and crime from a young age, leading to a normalization of these behaviors.
      • Supporting idea: Children who witness criminal behavior in their communities may come to view it as a normal part of everyday life and may be more likely to engage in criminal activities themselves as they get older.
      • Example: For example, children who grow up in households with domestic violence may become desensitized to violent behavior and may even replicate it in their own relationships.
