    • Main idea 2: Overhunting and poaching of animals for their meat, fur, and other products has also contributed to the decline of several species. 
      • Supporting idea:
      • Example: The African elephant, for example, has long been hunted for its ivory tusks, which are highly valued in many parts of the world. As a result of this overhunting, the elephant population has declined by more than 60% in the last decade.

    • Main idea 1: Habitat conservation and restoration efforts should be undertaken to provide wildlife with a safe and conducive environment. 
      • Supporting idea: This can be achieved through reforestation, creation of protected areas, and enforcing strict regulations on land use. 
      • Example: The U.S. government has initiated wetland restoration programs, which involve restoring degraded wetlands by planting native vegetation, constructing water control structures, and removing invasive species.
    • Main idea 2: Strong laws and regulations should be enforced to prevent hunting, poaching, and illegal trade of wildlife.

      • Example: In 2018, China banned the sale and trade of ivory, in an effort to combat elephant poaching and illegal ivory trade. The law, which is considered to be one of the strictest in the world, aims to reduce the demand for ivory and prevent the poaching of elephants.
