In modern society, violent films and computer games have become immensely popular among people of all ages. While some argue that these forms of entertainment are harmless and merely provide relaxation, others claim they have detrimental consequences and should be prohibited.

On the one hand, supporters believe that violent entertainment is benign (adj: not harmful – vô hại) since most people today are capable of distinguishing between fiction (n: imagined story – hư cấu) and reality. The majority of viewers or gamers consume such content solely for vicarious thrill (n: excitement experienced through another’s actions – sự hứng khởi gián tiếp), not because they wish to replicate it in real life. On the other hand, critics contend that the widespread consumption of such media can have a pernicious (adj: having a harmful effect, especially in a subtle way – độc hại, nguy hiểm) impact on society. Continuous exposure may subtly alter one’s mindset, normalizing antisocial behaviour (n: actions harmful to society – hành vi chống đối xã hội) and even triggering aggression. More alarmingly, research has revealed that many inmates confessed during counseling that their criminal actions were inspired by heroic portrayals (n: the way heroes are shown – sự khắc họa anh hùng) in violent films. Moreover, constant immersion in vulgar language and immoral conduct has the potential to desensitize (v: to make someone less sensitive – làm chai lì cảm xúc) individuals, making them perceive extreme brutality as ordinary.

In conclusion, although violent media may provide momentary relief for some, I firmly believe its long-term consequences on mental health and social stability are far more severe, and therefore such content should be strictly controlled.
