I. Đề bài

Some people want government to spend money on life on other planets, however, others think it is a waste of public money when the earth has so many problems. Discuss both views and give your own opinion

II. Kiến thức liên quan

III.

Body 1: Viết về quan điểm others think it is a waste of public money when the earth has so many problems.

Main idea 1: Critics argue that the vast amounts of money spent on space exploration could be better used to address urgent problems on Earth, such as poverty, hunger, healthcare, and climate change.

Supporting idea: They question the prioritization of space exploration over solving immediate issues.

Example: In 2019, NASA's budget was approximately $21.5 billion, while the World Food Programme received $8.4 billion. Critics argue that the funds used for space exploration could have provided food assistance to millions facing hunger.

Main idea 2: Some critics argue that the resources required for space exploration could be better spent on ethical considerations, such as addressing social injustices or improving education and healthcare, rather than pursuing endeavors that may benefit only a small fraction of the population.

Example: Investing in education has proven benefits like reducing poverty, improving healthcare outcomes, and fostering economic growth. A 2016 study by UNESCO found that every dollar invested in primary education yields an average return of $13.

Body 2: Viết về quan điểm Some people want government to spend money on life on other planets & nêu rõ mình ủng hộ quan điểm này.

Main idea 1: Space exploration drives scientific discovery and expands our understanding of the universe.

Supporting idea: It pushes the boundaries of human knowledge, leading to technological advancements that have practical applications beyond space exploration.

Example: The Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft are the farthest human-made objects in space. They have been used to study the outer solar system and the interstellar medium, and they have helped us to understand how the solar system formed and evolved.

The Mars rovers have been used to study the surface of Mars, and they have helped us to learn more about the history of Mars and the potential for life on Mars.

Main idea 2: Space exploration requires the development of cutting-edge technologies that have far-reaching applications.

Supporting idea: Investments in space programs often lead to advancements in robotics, satellite technology, computer systems, and energy-efficient solutions. These innovations can have significant benefits for society, driving economic growth and improving everyday life.

Example: The development of MRI technology was inspired by research conducted on the Space Shuttle. Scientists were studying the effects of microgravity on the human body, and they discovered that MRI could be used to create detailed images of the body without the use of radiation.

The development of Kevlar was inspired by research conducted on the space program. Scientists were looking for a material that could be used to make bulletproof vests, and they found that Kevlar was a strong and lightweight material that could stop bullets.

The development of GPS was inspired by the need to track satellites in space. Scientists developed a system that could track the position of satellites in space, and this system was later adapted to create GPS, which is now used by millions of people around the world.

IELTS TUTOR gợi ý bài tham khảo:

In recent decades, governments have allocated substantial funding to extraterrestrial exploration (khám phá ngoài Trái Đất – the scientific investigation of space and other planets). While some people believe that such spending is misallocated public funds (nguồn ngân sách công bị phân bổ sai – government money used for the wrong priorities) when numerous pressing problems remain unresolved on Earth, I support this investment.

On the one hand, critics argue that allocating billions of dollars to space programs is a misguided policy priority (ưu tiên chính sách sai lầm – a wrong decision in government spending) when many societies are struggling with urgent issues such as poverty, hunger and climate change. Governments, they contend, should focus on poverty alleviation initiatives (các sáng kiến giảm nghèo – programs designed to reduce poverty) and healthcare improvements that directly enhance citizens’ well-being. For example, the budget of NASA in 2019 reached around $21.5 billion, whereas the World Food Programme (Chương trình Lương thực Thế giới – a UN organization providing food assistance) received far less funding. Critics believe that if a portion of these resources were redirected to humanitarian relief efforts (nỗ lực cứu trợ nhân đạo – organized actions to help people in crisis), millions of starving people could receive vital support. Furthermore, some individuals argue that government funding should prioritize social welfare systems (hệ thống phúc lợi xã hội – programs that protect citizens’ living standards) such as education and healthcare, which generate long-term societal benefits.>> 🔥 IELTS TUTOR gợi ý tham khảo CẦN VIẾT & THU ÂM BAO NHIÊU BÀI ĐỂ ĐẠT 8.0 SPEAKING & 7.0 WRITING?

On the other hand, supporters, myself included, contend that investing in space exploration stimulates groundbreaking scientific discovery (khám phá khoa học đột phá – discoveries that significantly advance knowledge) and broadens humanity’s understanding of the universe. Missions such as Voyager 1 and 2 (tàu thăm dò Voyager 1 và 2 – spacecraft launched to explore the outer solar system) and the Mars rovers (xe tự hành sao Hỏa – robotic vehicles used to explore Mars) have produced valuable data about planetary formation and the potential existence of extraterrestrial life. Moreover, space programs often accelerate cutting-edge technological innovation (đổi mới công nghệ tiên tiến – highly advanced technological development) with practical benefits on Earth. Technologies such as satellite-based navigation systems (hệ thống định vị dựa trên vệ tinh – technology like GPS used for navigation), MRI medical imaging and high-strength materials like Kevlar originated partly from space-related research, demonstrating the far-reaching societal benefits (lợi ích xã hội sâu rộng – impacts affecting many aspects of society) of these investments.

In conclusion, although some people believe space exploration diverts resources from urgent terrestrial problems, I believe government funding for such research is justified because it fosters technological breakthroughs and expands humanity’s scientific horizons.
