        • Supporting idea: With a comfortable and willing attitude, undergraduates can acquire knowledge more effectively in comparison with those who go to university right away.
      • Main idea 2:  those taking a gap year can enjoy an advantage over their peers with problem-solving and task management skills, which may be enhanced through such experiences. 
        • Supporting idea: These skills are of great benefits to their higher education pursuits, enabling faster and more effective learning.
        • Example: Studies by Fletcher (2008) and Lunt & Milligan (2011) suggest that gap year experiences involving independent travel or living situations can lead to increased resourcefulness, adaptability, and problem-solving skills

      • Main idea 1: taking some time off for travel and work before starting university life may discourage some students from continuing their study later on
        • Supporting idea:

          • As a result, gap-year takers may have to face the challenge of becoming familiar with the knowledge at school again, receiving more pressure of catching up with their peers.
      • Main idea 2:  the life outside the university campus may prove to be mentally and physically overwhelming for inexperienced school leavers. 
        • Supporting idea: If not well prepared for such possible obstacles, young high school graduates can suffer from unintended consequences.
        • Example: They, for instance, may be at risk of being exploited in an exhausting job or face potential dangers on their trips to a new country.
