    • Main idea 2: Young people who remain unemployed after graduation often find their skills underutilized or even outdated.

      • Example: For example, a recent study in Canada found that young adults who were unemployed for more than six months were twice as likely to report feelings of isolation and depression compared to their employed counterparts.  The study also highlighted an increase in strained family relationships and a rise in petty crime within communities with high youth unemployment rates.
    • Main idea 2: Youth unemployment hampers economic growth by reducing consumer spending and tax revenues. 
      • Supporting idea: It also places a burden on social welfare systems as governments must provide support to unemployed individuals.
