Spoken communication is always more powerful than written communication. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In this day and age, some people hold the belief that oral communication outclasses written communication in all aspects. While it cannot be denied that spoken communication is important, I do believe that an effective means of communication depends on the situation.

On the one hand, spoken communication entails not only words but also intonation and body gestures, which enormously contribute to the impact that the speakers exert on others. For further elucidation, in certain circumstances, presenting is a more effective approach to convey messages given that a speaker can appeal to more people with a unique tone and attractive body language than a long monotonous essay. A prime example is that in most of the electoral campaigns, candidates often deliver speeches to seek advocates instead of writing letters because their devotion and dedication can be more easily illustrated through words and gestures.

On the other hand, writing is undeniably an effective communication method because of its formality and reliability. To elaborate, a piece of writing often uses formal or academic terms, and it is rarely changed after being printed or made public. Therefore, the readers feel that they are respected, and the possibility of the information being misinterpreted or distorted is minimized. For instance, the power of written communication is demonstrated in the case of a letter sent to a customer or a legal document, indicating the fact that in some situations, oral communication is not preferable.

In conclusion, I am convinced that both speaking and writing are effective methods of communication, and a specific circumstance is the key factor to deciding which outperforms the other.
