        • Supporting idea: Some zoos also run breeding programs in order to try and increase the numbers of some endangered species to avoid them becoming extinct.
        • Example: The Arabian Oryx was once extinct in the wild due to poaching and habitat destruction, but zoos like the San Diego Zoo and Phoenix Zoo protected them and ran breeding programs to increase their population. As a result, the species was successfully reintroduced into the wild, proving that zoos can help preserve endangered animals.

      • Main idea 2: By keeping animals in zoos, people can learn and understand more about them
        • Supporting idea: This can help to raise awareness amongst the public in order to help preserve certain species.
        • Example: A real-life example of this is the Giant Panda conservation program at zoos like the Smithsonian National Zoo in the U.S. and Chengdu Research Base in China. By keeping pandas in captivity, zoos provide educational programs and exhibitions that teach visitors about the species, their habitat, and the threats they face, such as deforestation.

IELTS TUTOR gợi ý bài tham khảo:

Zoos have long been a controversial topic, with some arguing that they are inherently cruel (về bản chất tàn nhẫn - fundamentally unkind and unfair) and should be abolished, while others believe they play a pivotal role (vai trò quan trọng - crucial role) in wildlife conservation. While there are legitimate concerns regarding the treatment of animals in captivity, I firmly believe that zoos contribute significantly to the safeguarding (bảo vệ - protection) of endangered species.

On the one hand, keeping wild animals in captivity raises ethical dilemmas (tình huống tiến thoái lưỡng nan về đạo đức - moral conflicts). Many zoos fail to provide adequate nourishment (dinh dưỡng đầy đủ - sufficient and appropriate food) and veterinary care (chăm sóc thú y - medical treatment for animals), leading to dire consequences (hậu quả nghiêm trọng - severe outcomes) such as malnutrition and disease outbreaks. Furthermore, confining animals in cramped enclosures (chuồng trại chật hẹp - small cages or spaces) deprives them of their innate instincts (bản năng bẩm sinh - natural tendencies), causing psychological distress (căng thẳng tâm lý - mental suffering). For instance, studies have shown that large mammals like elephants exhibit stereotypical behavior (hành vi rập khuôn - repetitive actions caused by stress), such as swaying or pacing back and forth, which indicates profound suffering (đau khổ sâu sắc - deep and severe distress).

On the other hand, I do believe that zoos play an indispensable role (vai trò không thể thiếu - essential role) in wildlife preservation (bảo tồn động vật hoang dã - conservation of wild animals). They protect species from rampant poaching (nạn săn bắt tràn lan - widespread illegal hunting) and habitat degradation (suy thoái môi trường sống - destruction of natural habitats), ensuring their survival. Notably, conservation programs such as those for the Arabian Oryx have successfully reintroduced species into the wild after being bred in captivity. Additionally, zoos serve as educational hubs (trung tâm giáo dục - places where people learn) that heighten public awareness (nâng cao nhận thức của công chúng - increase understanding) about biodiversity and ecological balance. By observing animals up close, visitors develop a deeper appreciation (sự trân trọng sâu sắc - greater understanding and respect) for wildlife, which fosters a collective effort (nỗ lực chung - shared responsibility) to protect endangered species.

In conclusion, while concerns about the morality of captivity (đạo đức của việc nuôi nhốt - ethical issues related to keeping animals in enclosures) are valid, zoos remain indispensable institutions (tổ chức không thể thiếu - necessary organizations) for wildlife conservation and education.
